The ASC industry, like the rest of the healthcare industry, is increasingly consolidating amid rising operating costs. 

Here are five physician practice and ASC closures in the last year:

A four-building medical office portfolio in northern Kentucky and southern Indiana was acquired by Montecito Medical, RE Journals reported Aug. 25.

Becker's ASC Review has reported on X medical real estate deals since the beginning of August, including one in New York and one in Chicago.

Physician staffing firm Envision Healthcare, parent company of ASC company AmSurg, had its revenue fall again in the second quarter of this year, Bloomberg reported Aug. 23. 

SVN Urban Properties took over management of Galleria Medical Office Building in Metairie, La., Biz New Orleans reported Aug. 22.

Montecito Medical completed the acquisition of a medical office in Bethlehem, Pa.

Drugstore and insurance company CVS Health has had a busy month as the company looks to enter the primary care market. 

A medical office building in Edmond, Okla., has been sold for $1.45 million, The Oklahoman reported Aug. 19.

Brentwood, Tenn.-based Surgery Partners is one of the nation's largest ASC chains, with more than 180 facilities and 4,000 physicians.

HCA Healthcare has expanded its network of 153 ASCs by acquiring interest in Performance Health Surgery Center in Fort Myers (Fla.) along with five physician partners. 

Deerfield Ill.-based SCA Health, formerly Surgical Care Affiliates, is one of the largest ASC chains in the country and operates under parent company Optum.

While healthcare mergers and acquisitions are down this year compared to 2021, the ASC sector continues to grow, according to an Aug. 14 article in JDSupra from the law firm Bass, Berry & Sims. 

The property housing Post Falls, Idaho-based Northwest Specialty Hospital was acquired for $67.5 million.

United Surgical Partners International, Dallas-based Tenet Healthcare's surgery center business, is the largest ASC chain in the country, with 410 surgery centers and 24 surgical hospitals in 34 states.

United Surgical Partners International, Surgery Partners and SCA Health are three of the biggest ASC chains, and are looking to different avenues for growth in the coming years. 

A physician group sold the property housing the Naperville, Ill.-based Suburban Gastroenterology and Midwest Endoscopy Center for $15 million, the Chicago Business Journal reported Aug. 15.
