Study: Automated Suturing Lowers Operating Time, Cost

A recent study found the Covidien Endo Stitch reduced overall hospitalization costs by approximately $1,800 and cut operating room time by roughly 40 minutes during laparoscopic hysterectomies, according to a MedGadget report.

Stuart Hart, MD, FACOG, FACS, co-director of the University of South Florida Center for the Advancement of Minimally Invasive Pelvic Surgery and used the device for years, told MedGadget automating suturing allows surgeons to bypass the steep learning curve for laparoscopic stitching.
