Sales of Oximetry, Monitoring Products Rise at Covidien

Covidien's second-quarter sales of its oximetry and monitoring product line were well above levels from of a year ago, aided by the acquisition of Somanetics, according to a release by Covidien.

The company's total second-quarter sales of medical devices stood at $1.88 billion, up 16 percent from the comparable quarter of last year, fueled by acquisitions, new products and increased volume.

Sales of airway and ventilation products fell well below those of the year before, chiefly due to difficult comparisons with last year's flu-related volume, coupled with the divestiture of the sleep therapy product line. But vascular sales more than doubled, reflecting the addition of ev3 products and, to a lesser extent, double-digit growth for compression and venous insufficiency products.
