Two months into the healthcare industry's "GLN Sunrise," 566 healthcare organizations report they are amending their business processes and technologies to meet the sunrise requirements, according to a GS1 news release.
The GLN Sunrise aims to have healthcare providers adopt the GS1 Global Location Number as the unique number in lieu of custom account/location numbers to standardize location identification. GS1 has also launched GTIN Sunrise, which calls for the voluntary adoption of GS1 Global Trade Item Numbers in place of custom product numbers to standardize product identification.
Mayo Clinic, based in Rochester, Minn., is one of the 566 healthcare organizations that have adopted GS1 standards. Joe Dudas, director of accounting and supply chain information at Mayo, said using GLN eliminates the need for proprietary location numbers and other custom account numbers.
