Medicrea has announced it has received FDA approval of its LigaPASS spinal fixation system, according to a news release.
The system consists of a rod connector and sublaminar strap, which is designed to allow a surgeon to connect the vertebrae to the rod without the use of pedicle screws or hooks for spinal fusion surgery.
"With the LigaPASS entering the U.S. market, our subsidiary Medicrea USA Corp. now has a technology platform approved by the FDA that can address all the complex indications of the spine through MIS, anterior and posterior approaches," said Denys Sournac, Medicrea president and CEO, in the release. "We ambition to introduce the LigaPASS to key opinion leaders of this surgical field throughout the United States and Europe by the end of 2012."
The first LigaPASS surgeries were performed in the United States by Dr. Afshin Aminian of Saint Joseph Hospital in Orange, Calif.
Medicrea is headquartered in Lyon, France.
