For physicians, choosing whether to be employed or self-employed can be one of the biggest decisions they make during their careers.
While there are pros and cons to both options, here is what employed physicians like most about their work setup, according to Medscape's 2023 "Employed Physicians Report," published Aug. 22:
Note: Two percent of physicians said they do not like anything about being an employed physician.
1. Don't have to run a business: 56 percent
2. Stable income: 52 percent
3. Employer pays for malpractice insurance: 28 percent
4. Work-life balance: 22 percent
5. Work with large teams and staff: 13 percent
6. Spend less time on rules and regulations: 10 percent
7. Company management: 1 percent
8. Other: 2 percent
