AJRR launches patient risk factor data for hip, knee replacements

The American Joint Replacement Registry released new specifications concerning collecting data on hip and knee replacement patients.

Here are five notes:

1. The specifications enable healthcare facilities to both collect and report on patient risk factors in addition to complication and comorbidity data.

2. Various federal and state quality initiatives recommend institutions utilize this Level II dataset.

3. Through the addition of Level II data, AJRR has completed its dataset and its Registry participants can obtain the necessary risk-adjusted data to assess survivorship curves.

4. Daniel J. Berry, MD, AJRR board of directors' chair, said the Level II data allows surgeons spanning the nation to consider variables for surgical procedures and make the most-informed decisions. He said, "Our ability to risk adjust will allow for their findings to not be misconstrued."

5. The Level II dataset features Level I procedure data information as well as Level III patient-reported outcome data elements.
