Milwaukee-based Aurora Health Care sold ownership in two joint venture ASCs for around $7 million. Aurora had entered into the joint ventures with Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin more than five years ago.

Holland Eye Surgery & Laser Center alerts 42k patients about 2016 breach
Holland (Mich.) Eye Surgery and Laser Center recently mailed notification letters to patients affected by a 2016 hacking incident. A hacker called Lifelock claims to have demanded $10,000.00 from Holland Eye to help the organization secure its patients' data.

Wexner Medical Center picks site near competitors for outpatient complex
Columbus-based Ohio State University's Wexner Medical Center selected a second location for a network of outpatient complexes with ASCs and medical offices. The health system is eyeing 29.6 acres in Liberty Township, Ohio, for $8 million.

Medicare to run out of money sooner than expected
Medicare's main trust fund will be depleted by 2026, three years earlier than expected, according to updated projections from Medicare's Board of Trustees. The board blamed the updated projections on lower payroll taxes and decreased Social Security benefits, both resulting from President Donald Trump's tax overhaul.

Real estate company JLL added Tim Gregory to its staff as senior vice president to focus on leasing healthcare-related properties. Mr. Gregory will focus on ASC and medical office building leasing efforts.

$11M Illinois joint venture ASC opens
New Lenox, Ill.-based Silver Cross Hospital opened a freestanding ASC in New Lenox through a joint venture with independent physicians and Addison, Texas-based United Surgical Partners International. The center has three operating rooms, 12 preoperative and postoperative beds and a family waiting area.

Diamond Orthopedic aims to penetrate ASC market with patented design
Diamond Orthopedic received FDA 510(k) clearance for its sterile-packaged faceted bone screw technology. The patented faceted screw design is intended for surgeons to use to insert screws into bone with less torque, reducing the potential for microfractures. The design is engineered to exhibit better purchase at the bone-screw interface and reduced compressive stress compared to traditional helical screws.
