Ransomware attack at St. Mark's Surgical Center potentially exposes 33k+ patient files
Fort Myers, Fla.-based St. Mark's Surgical Center fell victim to a ransomware attack that may have exposed 33,887 patient files across seven states. The ransomware attack targeted the center's server. According to a letter from the center, the server contained patient data including names, dates of birth, health and treatment information and Social Security numbers.
Ohio ASC joins National Colorectal Cancer Roundtable's initiative
Columbus, Ohio-based Taylor Station Surgical Center joined National Colorectal Cancer Roundtable's initiative to boost colorectal cancer screening rates. Under the initiative, more than 500 organizations vowed to put forth effort to have 80 percent of U.S. adults aged 50 and older undergo colon cancer screenings by 2018.

California single-payer health plan under consideration this fall
California Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon, D-South Gate, said officials will hold hearings over the state's single-payer health plan proposal after Sept. 15. Mr. Rendon called the proposal "woefully incomplete" in June, when the state Senate first considered the proposal. The bill did not give details as to how the state would fund such a system.
