3 Key Indicators a Physician Might Not be a Good Fit for an ASC

Sarah Martin, regional vice president of operations of Meridian Surgical Partners, shares three character traits that ASCs should watch out for when recruiting new physicians.

1. Listen to what you hear about a physician's personality from other physicians.
A great physician who creates havoc by yelling at staff and patients may not be worth recruiting. You may be able to avoid this by doing diligence on personality in the first place.

2. Physicians who take a long time to perform procedures that others can do quickly would not be a good fit, as is a physician known to "run late" on a regular basis. Anything that will decrease the ASC's efficiency is best to avoid. Again, listen to what anesthesia providers have to say, as many times they have worked with these physicians in other healthcare settings.

3. Physicians who require the newest technology and supplies may not be a good fit.
I am not a physician and do not tell a doctor how to operate, but physicians who insist on the latest and greatest with zero concern for cost is not a best fit for the ASC setting.
