2 ASCs featured in article on rise of the laser in ophthalmic surgery

Eye Surgery and Laser Center in Winter Haven, Fla., and Central Florida Surgi-Center in Lakeland have both been featured in an article in the local paper The Ledger on the rise of laser surgery in ophthalmic procedures, particularly cataract removal.

Medicare and other insurance companies have not agreed to cover laser-performed cataract surgeries, because the non-laser method for performing the procedure is uncomplicated up to 97 percent of the time, according to the report.

However, physicians from the surgery centers say the technology allows for greater precision in the surgeries, improves patient vision more quickly and advocate for its continued use in the development of the procedure, according to the report.
