Volusia and Flagler Counties in Florida to Receive Steep Medicaid Debt Discounts

Volusia and Flagler counties in Florida will receive discounts from Medicaid to settle its debt, according to The Daytona Beach News-Journal.

The state's Agency for Health Care Administration originally billed Volusia County $6.8 million, but the county is expected to pay only $1.4 million if the County Council approves the deal.

Paying the discounted rate will save the county money and the uncertainty of taking the debt issue to court.

Flagler County could also get a discount on its original $1 million in backed medical fees. The state has reduced the fee to $668,634.49. If the county accepts and pays the amount over five years, it will get an additional 15 percent reduction, leaving only $568,339 to pay.
