St. Louis-based physician Sonny Saggar, MD, was arrested on an indictment accusing him of healthcare fraud, the U.S. Justice Department said July 27.
Along with his office manager, Renita Barringer, Dr. Saggar faces one count of conspiracy and eight counts of making false statements related to a healthcare matter. Both have pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Dr. Saggar owned and operated multiple urgent care centers. He and Ms. Barringer are accused of conspiring to make false statements by billing for services provided by assistant physicians as if Dr. Saggar had performed them.
