Payers & telehealth companies improving their working relationship — 5 insights

 Payers and telehealth vendors are working together to improve patient outcomes, according to Healthcare DIVE.

Here are five insights:

1. Dallas-based Teladoc, the largest telehealth provider in the United States, is currently working with 28 healthcare insurance plans. Among those plans are Aetna, Oscar and Blue Shield of California.

2. Other telehealth providers working with health plans include Alpharetta, Ga.-based RelayHealth and Denver-based Cirrus MD.

3. According to the National Conference of State Legislatures, 48 states and Washington, D.C., provide some form of Medicaid payment for telehealth services, and 32 states and Washington, D.C., provide some form of private insurance policy.

4. An American Telemedicine Association report shows 29 states and Washington, D.C., have telemedicine parity laws for private payers.

5. Currently, more than 700 self-funded plan sponsors are using Teladoc.
