Most California payers support plan to change tax on health plans: 5 takeaways

The majority of California's payers are supporting a plan to restructure a tax on health plans, according to Sacramento CBS.

Here are five takeaways:

1. Gov. Jerry Brown proposed the law.

2. On Feb. 10, the California Association of Health Plan told a state Assembly the plan would secure Medi-Cal while ensuring insurance premium affordability.

3. Cigna Life and Health Insurance Company oppose the proposal, claiming it will affect plans differently.

4. The committee has not taken any action yet.

5. The proposal seeks to impose a new tax on insurance plans, which federal dollars would match. The governor claims the bill would prevent a $1.1 billion hole in the Medi-Cal budget.
