Medical Center Health System Receives County Funding for ICD-10 Training

Medical Center Health System in Odessa, Texas, will have its ICD-10 code set switch funded by the Ector County Health District, as officials voted unanimously last night to financially support staff training, according to an Odessa American report.

Hospital employees will undertake intensive training to prepare for the Oct. 1, 2014, implementation deadline, and much of the training will take place online, according to the report.

ICD-10's increased specificity contains approximately 68,000 potential diagnostic codes, compared to ICD-9's 13,000.
