The final rule for Stage 2 of the Meaningful Use program was released by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services last month, and the ruling provides clarity for radiologists and hospitals, according to Diagnostic Imaging.
The final rule guidance is expected to make MU compliance easier for radiologists because it combines certification criteria for eligible hospitals and eligible providers in hospital settings with certified electronic health records. The rule also impacts quality measures.
The Stage 2 ruling will take effect in 2014. The final rules are considered to be a step forward toward standards-based health information exchanges, but more analysis needs to be done before providers and practices should change daily workflows.
