Indiana expands Medicaid, sees more insured patients: 5 points

Indiana has experienced an increase in patients seeking care, according to News-Sentinel.com.

Here are five points:

1. Indiana expanded its Medicaid program, called Healthy Indiana Plan 2.0, and has since seen more residents with health coverage.

2. The state used to have a strict Medicaid program, excluding parents who earned more than 24 percent of the poverty level.

3. The Medicaid expansion has allowed patients to receive more specialty care, including necessary tests and screenings.

4. Indiana University Health reported a 4 percent decrease in self-pay patients since the Medicaid expansion.

5. The health system also reported a 1.7 percent decline in uncompensated care at its Paoli hospital.
