Emergency Room Costs Rise, EMRs Not to Blame

Electronic medical records may not be solely to blame for higher emergency room bills, according to MedPage Today.

Research indicated the average age of Medicare patients in the ER has fallen, which indicates their health conditions may be more severe and require more costly services.

The average age of Medicare patients has also fallen since 2001. More, sicker patients also puts an increased burden on shrinking ER spaces and additional costs to care for patients formerly treated in inpatient wards.
