CMS Provides Health Plan Identifier, HIPAA Preparation Resources

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services will be hosting a free health plan identifier webinar and a HIPAA testing pilot in preparation for the Oct. 1, 2014, ICD-10 implementation deadline.

The Oct. 1 webinar will teach participants about the health plan and other entity enumeration system and provide access to educational resources. Those who cannot attend the webinar can still receive updates.

CMS also has an ongoing effort to provide resources for implementing HIPAA standards, operating rules and code sets. The National Government Services will be conducting a pilot for testing the duration of the HIPAA claims process. The pilot aims to develop tools, benchmarks and best practices for testing and implementing HIPAA requirements.
