CMS grants 10-year Medicaid waiver extension to Mississippi — 3 things to know

CMS approved a 10-year extension of a Medicaid 1115 demonstration waiver to the state of Mississippi.

Here's what you should know:

1. In a letter, CMS approved The Mississippi Family Planning Medicaid Waiver effective through Dec. 31, 2027.

2. The waiver will provide family planning services to women and men between the ages of 13 years and 44 years that have incomes at or below 194 percent of the federal poverty level. The individuals must also not be enrolled in Medicaid, Medicare, the Children's Health Insurance Program or other credible health insurance.

3. CMS made changes to the waiver's terms and conditions to reduce administrative burdens on the state, while also ensuring an adequate amount of federal oversight. The biggest change was granting a ten-year extension. A typical extension was for five years.
