Cigna glitch released Asia customers' private information — 3 quick facts

A system error caused Cigna to expose the bank account information of some clients in Asia, Bloomberg reports.

Here are three quick facts.

1. Some clients' bank account information was sent to customers and healthcare providers in May.

2. A Cigna spokesperson declined to give Bloomberg a specific number of clients affected but said it was a small number who work outside their home country.

3. The error wasn't caused by a cyberattack.

"Cigna's claim system erroneously issued claim settlement communications to certain members and providers," Cigna spokeswoman Sabrina Cheung said in an email to Bloomberg. "In some cases, personal information was inadvertently disclosed."
