Arizona's lone insurer sees growth double from Medicaid expansion: 5 thoughts

Centene Corp. has doubled its growth after the ACA's Medicaid expansion last year, Forbes reports.

Here's what you should know.

1. The company's third quarter earnings jumped 86 percent to $10.8 billion from $5.8 billion.

2. Centene is attributing the growth to its acquisition of Health Net and to Medicaid expansion.

3. The insurer's net earnings increased from $107 million in 2015's Q3 to $194 million in 2016.

4. Enrollment in the insurer's Medicaid program grew rapidly. It was at 442,600 in 2015 and is now slightly over a 1 million members. That growth is reflected in its general enrollment as well. In 2015, Centene had 4.8 million members; it's now at 11.4 million.

5. CEO Michael Neidorff said the company's experience with the ACA "continues to be favorable."
