AMA Opposes Protecting Access to Medicare Act of 2014

Yesterday afternoon President Barack Obama signed into law the Protecting Access to Medicare Act of 2014, which provides an SGR patch and delays ICD-10 until October 2015. Though the American Medical Association has been a staunch opponent of the ICD-10 transition, the organization has expressed its disapproval of the new law, according to a Government HealthIT report.

The AMA does not believe that the one-year extension for ICD-10 is not worth the price of another SGR patch, but it does welcome the additional time to prepare for the switch to the new code set.
