5 Ways for Orthopedic Groups to Prepare for Coding Changes

Since ICD-10 implementation is being delayed until Oct. 1, 2015, orthopedic groups are preparing for the new implementation date, according to an AAOS Now report.

Here are five things to know about the update:

1. Communication with vendors and payers about their preparations is still important. Make sure your vendors and payers will be ready for the switch.

2. Figure out whether vendors and payers will continue their test periods and whether you'll be able to participate in one of the future tests.

3. Begin or continue physician education and staff training.

4. Find the best training programs for staff to ensure they are prepared for the switch.

5. The extra time will allow groups to fully prepare and avoid financial gaps due to incorrectly coded claims in the future.
