The volume of surgical procedures conducted in outpatient facilities increased by 33 percent from 2006 to 2013, according to Regent Surgical Health. Mnet Health News shared three ways ASC leaders can increase revenue in this shifting landscape.
1. Consider partnering with independent surgeons.
Partnerships with surgeons can enable ASCs to provide quality services at a low cost, which in turn can drive an increase in case volumes.
2. Target private payers.
Private payers prefer ASCs for their reimbursement rates, which are comparatively lower than at hospitals. An ASC can leverage payer data to search for employers, but the strategy's success depends on whether it boosts case volume.
3. Embrace the shift toward healthcare consumerism.
Facing increasing difficulty paying out-of-pocket medical expenses, patients are shopping around for the highest-quality, lowest-cost care. To succeed in this landscape, ASCs should attract greater case volume by giving patients decision support tools, financial incentives, rewards and other benefits.
