Since comedian Joan Rivers' fatal procedure Yorkville Endoscopy last year, the surgery center's problems have been compounding.
Earlier this week, it was announced that pending a successful appeal, Yorkville would lose its CMS certification; and now it has lost accreditation from the American Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgery Facilities, according to an ABC News report.
An AAAASF spokeswoman announced that surgery center was no longer accredited by AAAASF, and then added "we have no further comment on the matter at this time," according to the report.
In its announcement a few days ago, CMS stated that Yorkville Endoscopy "no longer meets the conditions for coverage for a supplier of ambulatory surgical center services." However, Yorkville has the opportunity to appeal against the loss of CMS certification and it plans to do so. Additionally, the surgery center may face a lawsuit from Ms. Rivers' daughter, Melissa Rivers who has hired a law firm to investigate the center.
