The Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care said although benchmarking studies can be highly impactful, they are underutilized.
Here's what you should know.
1. Senior Director for the AAAHC Institute Naomi Kuznets said benchmarking studies are the easiest way to evaluate the quality of care being provided, and how it impacts patients.
2. The AAAHC offers primary care and surgical/procedural studies to help ASCs compare process and outcomes across organizations.
3. The studies are open to all ASCs. To participate a center needs to submit a one-page information sheet and metrics from 15-25 routine cases over a six month period.
4. When the study period ends, the AAAHC provides an ASC with a report that lists the center's comparisons and offers best practices and methods of improvement.
5. One study is free for every three-year term of accreditation. Participation in additional studies is $400 for accredited and $500 for non-accredited organizations.
