The Joint Commission to release 2 new infection control guides for ASCs in 2018

The Joint Commission and the CDC have been collaborating since 2015 to adapt, enhance and disseminate current CDC guidelines related to infection control in the ambulatory space. As a result of this project, The Joint Commission is going to introduce two new infection control guides in the ambulatory space for 2018.

Here's what you should know:

1. The Joint Commission/CDC team collaborated with several professional societies to obtain setting-specific information, scenarios and infection prevention challenges to address.

2. The team also visited several ASCs to obtain feedback on the new guides.

3. According to a blog post, "Together with the CDC, we are confident the new guides will provide valuable and practical infection prevention and control resources."

4. The Joint Commission is also developing an infection prevention checklist for outpatient settings based on CDC guidance. The checklist will be used as an audit tool or training guide for ambulatory care settings.
