Safety Attitudes Questionnaire Could Improve Patient Safety Culture

Using a safety attitudes questionnaire can be useful in measuring the effectiveness of patient safety improvement initiatives, according to an article published in the Journal of Patient Safety.

Operating room staff members at 63 Veterans Affairs hospitals were surveyed using the Safety Attitude questionnaire before and after they went through a team training program about staff communication. Of the 64 hospitals, 26 hospitals demonstrated changes in staff members' attitudes and perceptions of patient safety. Improvement in "perceptions of management" was most common among the 26 hospitals.
