Texas-based Good Shepherd Medical Center was awarded the Joint Commission's Gold Seal of Approval for Advanced Certification for its total hip and knee replacement programs, the Longview News-Journal reports.

1. Good Shepherd is one of the first centers in the nation to earn the new accreditation.
The Joint Commission introduced the accreditation in 2016 because of the increased occurrence of total hip and knee replacement surgeries.
2. Good Shepherd Health System is made up of several hospitals and ASCs throughout Texas.
3. The center received the certification after several onsite reviews, where Joint Commission representatives evaluated a variety of different standards.
