The Joint Commission has announced its incoming board of commissioners for 2012, according to a Joint Commission news release.
The seven new members include healthcare executive John A. Babiarz, COO, ARAMARK Healthcare; L.D. Britt, MD, MPH, FACS, appointed by the American College of Surgeons; Albert J. Osbahr III, MD, and Stephen R. Permut, MD, JD, both appointed by the American Medical Association; David Pryor, MD, appointed by the American Hospital Association; and David Henry Perrott, DDS, MD, MBA, FACS, appointed by the American Dental Association. Joan M. Doyle, RN, MSN, MBA, executive director, Penn Home Care and Hospice Services, University of Pennsylvania Health System, Philadelphia, will represent the home care field as a commissioner.

Current behavioral healthcare field representative Michael F. Hogan, PhD, commissioner, New York State Office of Mental Health, and current long term care field representative Connie S. March, RN, MSN, president and CEO, Provena Life Connections will become full voting members of the board. Previously, these field representatives for long term care, behavioral healthcare and home care voted on board committees, but not at the full board.

Chassin, MD, FACP, MPP, MPH, president, The Joint Commission, in the release. "Their longstanding commitment to quality and patient safety will significantly enhance The Joint Commission's efforts to achieve its mission of improving health care for the public."
The Joint Commission also announced the re-appointment of Isabel Hoverman, MD, MACP, as 2012 chair of the board of commissioners. Gerald Shea will serve again as vice chair. The following officer re-appointments for 2012 were also announced:
- Treasurer: Rebecca Patchin, MD
- Secretary: Craig W. Jones, FACHE
- Executive committee member-at-large: LaMar S. McGinnis, MD, FACS
- Executive committee member-at-large: David Henry Perrott, DDS, MD, MBA, FACS
