Building a rapport with surveyors is extremely important to ensuring accreditation success and maintaining productive and helpful relationships with surveyors between surveys. Marti Potter, administrator of the Somers Point, N.J.-based Jersey Shore Ambulatory Surgery Center says being candid can go a long way toward achieving this goal.
"Most surveyors do come in and speak to staff," she said. If a surveyor asks a question to which a staff member does not know the answer, she recommends the staff member be upfront. "All staff need to say is they're not sure, but they know where to find the answer," Ms. Potter added.
