The Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care celebrates its 35 anniversary the week of August 18.
The organization has created a reliable, peer-based system of evaluation, consulting and education in its three-and-a-half decades of existence. Since 1979, the organization has accomplished many things, including:
• Launching an accreditation program for healthcare plans and managed care in 1983
• Founding the AAAHC Institute for Quality Improvement in 1999, to assist ambulatory organizations in benchmarking clinical and quality measures on a national level.
• Obtaining CMS approval for Medicare Advantage plans in 2007
• Becoming the official accrediting organization of the U.S. Air Force Coast Guard
• Establishing Acreditas Global, the international arm of AAAHC, in 2010 to help providers in other countries that seek accreditation for their ambulatory healthcare services
