Tampa Outpatient Surgical Facility CEO helps launch incubator — 4 highlights

Tampa (Fla.) Outpatient Surgical Facility and North Tampa Outpatient Surgical Facility's President and CEO Devanand Mangar, MD, helped create a think tank focused on preventing opioid abuse, the Tampa Bay Business Journal reports.

Here's what you should know:

1. Devanand Mangar, MD, who is also Tampa General Hospital's anesthesiology chief, collaborated with Pacira Pharmaceuticals and The South Florida Accelerator to create the Center for Analgesic Transformation in Tampa.

2. The center is a think tank focused on creating opioid minimization strategies through the use of non-opioid analgesics.

3. It is housed in a 3,000-square-foot space.

4. South Florida Accelerator Managing Partner Thomas Buchar told the Tampa Bay Business Journal he plans to open a coworking facility nearby.

"We've got to approach the opioid crisis as we attack the banking industry. You have to use the same discipline with all three parties coming together. Nobody else is doing this, everybody is approaching the epidemic from a reactive point of view where they are treating the addict, but there's no think tank in how to prevent it," Mr. Buchar said.
