The Society of Pediatric Anesthesia turns 25 this year, according to an Anesthesiology News report.
Since it was founded in 1986, the SPA has worked to continually advance the safety and quality of anesthetic care, perioperative management and alleviation of pain in children, according to SPA president Lynn Martin, MD.
The society also provides a form for discussion by anesthesiologists with an interest in pediatric perioperative care, according to Dr. Martin.
In its 25 years, the SPA has spurred the certification of pediatric anesthesia training programs by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education and the approval of subspecialty certification in advanced pediatric training by the American Board of Anesthesiology.
