A New Jersey anesthesiologist praised the effects of the Affordable Care Act in a New Jersey Newsroom editorial.
"As a physician and a parent, I want others to understand the magnitude of these changes —changes that are relieving thousands of families like my own from an oppressive burden of worries," said Valerie Armstead, MD, of Cooper University Hospital in Camden. "The ACA made it illegal for insurance companies to deny coverage to children on the basis of pre-existing conditions. The law also put an end to lifetime coverage limits."
Dr. Armstead emphasized new options available to patients under the ACA, including child-only insurance packages, complete coverage for comprehensive screenings and preventative care for children.
"This week marks the second anniversary of life-saving reform," said Dr. Armstead. "As the Supreme Court prepares to hear arguments in favor of the law's repeal, it is important for Americans to understand the tangible benefits that are put at risk in this deliberation. Health security is not an abstraction."
