Based on a recent inspection, the FDA is warning providers and hospital supply managers that drugs produced and distributed by The Compounding Shop in St. Petersburg, Fla., may not be sterile, according to the American Society of Anesthesiologists.
No products from this compounder that are marked as sterile should be administered to patients, as microbial contamination can put patients at risk for severe infections.
Hospitals and healthcare providers should quarantine any such products and await further instructions, according to the release.
