Mark J. Lema, MD, professor and chair of the University at Buffalo's department of anesthesiology, received the Distinguished Service Professorship from the State University of New York.

1. Dr. Lema is a former president of the American Society of Anesthesiologists, New York State Society of Anesthesiologists and Erie County Medical Society.
2. He has won ASA's and NYSSA's Distinguished Service Awards over the course of his career.
3. Dr. Lema completed his anesthesiology training at Harvard Medical School/Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston.
4. The Distinguished Service Professorship is the highest faculty achievement in the SUNY system.
