Anesthesiologist James Allen Jr., DO, pleaded guilty June 4 to filing false tax returns for eight years, according to the Department of Justice.
Three details:
1. From 2010 through 2017, Dr. Allen didn't report more than $3 million he and his wife earned as anesthesiologists, causing the government to lose more than $900,000. The Pennsylvania anesthesiologists admitted to filing false tax returns as part of his plea deal.
2. Dr. Allen said his actions were based on a tax fraud scheme promoted in Cracking the Code, a book by Peter Hendrickson, who was convicted in 2009 and sentenced to prison for filing false tax returns.
3. Dr. Allen agreed to pay the IRS $902,721.45 in restitution as part of his plea deal. His sentencing is scheduled for Nov. 12. He faces a maximum three-year prison sentence and $250,000 fine.
