Anesthesia Device Market to Reach $4B by 2017

The anesthesia, respiratory and sleep management device market will reach approximately $4 billion by 2017, driven by the sales of anesthesia information management systems, according to a report from iData Research.

The report, "U.S. Market for Anesthesia, Respiratory and Sleep Management Devices," found that in 2010, the market was valued at $2.5 billion. The market is estimated to grow at a mid-level single-digit rate over the forecast period, increasing by 50 percent in 2012 as hospitals automate their anesthesia departments ahead of the required 2015 deadline.

The report predicted that market share in the anesthesia information management system segment will almost triple in value by 2017. Companies such as Picis, GE Healthcare, Draeger, iMDsoft, Merge and Phillips are expected to battle over this market share, and the entrance of lower-cost companies into the market will force leaders to release low-cost, low-acuity models to compete.

Falling prices are expected to boost unit sales through 2017, according to the report.
