8 Recent Anesthesiology Leader Moves

The following anesthesiology leader moves took place in the past six weeks, beginning with the most recent.

1. The Children's National Medical Center in Washington, D.C., named two joint chief medical officers, anesthesiologist David Wessel, MD, and Denice Cora-Bramble, MD.

2. University of North Texas Health Science Center in Forth Worth appointed Michael Williams, DO, MD, as interim president. Dr. Williams is board-certified in anesthesiology and critical care medicine.

3. SmartTots added Ned Russell and Mark Rogers, MD, to its executive board. SmartTots was created as a research initiative by the International Anesthesia Research Society.

4. Sheridan Healthcare's Heritage Valley Health System named Brett Anderson, MD, as chair of the anesthesiology department at its Beaver campus.

5. The National Space Biomedical Research Institute named Ralph Lydic, MD, to chair its External Advisory Council. Dr. Lydic is the recipient of the 2012 Excellence in Research Award from the American Society of Anesthesiologists.

6. The American Society of Anesthesiologists named Paul Pomerantz as its new chief executive officer, beginning March 4, 2013.

7. Orangeburg, Ky., anesthesiologist Gary Delaney, MD, was named president of the Southern Medical Association for 2013.

8. Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury, Md., named Courtney Harris, MD, as chief of the anesthesia department and Alex Mah, MD, as vice chair of anesthesiology.
