Medline outlined three ways ASCs can collaborate with physicians to manage physician preference items in the latest issue of the Outpatient Outcomes magazine.
Here are the key details to know:
1. Physicians and supply chain staff have the same goals. Supply chain managers should communicate with physicians that they aim to purchase high quality items at reasonable costs.
2. Use data. Supply chain managers can use data to help physicians understand how volume, cost and outcomes can benefit by standardizing PPIs.
3. Do product trials. Allow physicians to take products "on a test drive" before standardizing them. For example, let surgeons wear a brand of gloves and simulate how they might move in them during a surgery before purchasing a full order.
