Four employees at Three Rivers Infusion and Pharmacy Specialists in Coshocton, Ohio, were arrested in connection with an ongoing investigation into suspected healthcare fraud at the facility, according to a news release from the Ohio Attorney General's office.
A federal indictment charges Barbara Elise Miller of Coshocton, the owner of Three Rivers, with two counts of witness tampering, two counts of obstruction of an official proceeding and one count of concealment of records. Ms. Miller's husband, Dana C. Campbell, vice president of finance for Three Rivers, is charged with one count of concealment of records. Douglas A. Bolden and James O. Ireland, both of Zanesville, Ohio, were charged with one count of obstruction of an official proceeding. Mr. Bolden and Mr. Ireland both worked at Three Rivers, according to the release.
In August 2008, investigators searched Three Rivers and seized various files, including files of patients who received Synagis, a drug used to treat high-risk infants in the prevention of Respiratory Syncytial Virus, according to the release.
In December 2008, Three Rivers was served with a subpoena to produce 118 patient files, but only provided the government with 21 files. In the same month, agents found many of the subpoenaed patient files concealed in Ms. Miller's and Mr. Campbell's home in Coshocton.
Mr. Bolden and Mr. Ireland accused Ms. Miller of using Mr. Bolden's name as the pharmacist who was dispensing the drug Synagis when he had not done so, according to the release. The government alleges that Ms. Miller provided "severance" payments to both employees in return for their silence about her activities.
No information about a hearing was available in the release.
