An Atlanta physician has been sentenced to one year and three months in federal prison after he admitted to filing more than $2 million in fraudulent Medicare and Medicaid claims, according to an Atlanta Journal-Constitution report.
Robert Williams, MD, was also ordered to pay $771,596 to Medicare and $227,846 to Georgia Medicaid.
From 2007-2009, Dr. Williams contracted with a medical services company to provide psychological therapy to nursing home patients. More than 55,000 claims were submitted under Dr. Williams' provider number. However, after inspection, many of the patients were dead or could not have physically received care at a nursing home.
