PENTAX Medical Co., a developer of medical products and services, introduced the EPK-i Video Endoscopic System and i-Flex scopes for U.S. physicians specializing in gastroenterology, hepatology, endoscopy and gastrointestinal surgery in May 2007.

The EPK-i was one of the first computer-controlled digital processing system to provide a resolution of 1.25 megapixels, allowing it to produce one of the sharpest endoscopic images available.

PENTAX Medical Co., a division of PENTAX of America, was founded in 1979 as PENTAX Precision Instrument Corp., the U.S. Medical Division of PENTAX Corp. The company primarily provides endoscopic imaging devices for diagnostic, therapeutic and research applications in the GI, ENT and pulmonology fields. PENTAX's primary markets include ASCs, hospitals and physician practices.

The company offers a full range of endoscopes, computer hardware and software platforms, video equipment and computer software for image and data management. Recent new technology includes Motion Picture Studio, which offers full-motion video documentation of endoscopy procedures, and a confocal endomicroscopy system which produces high-resolution microscopic structures down to the size of the cell nucleus using a fusion of endoscopy and confocal microscopy. They also manufacture ancillary equipment, carts and a variety of upper and GI and lower GI scopes.

PENTAX recently merged with HOYA, an optics technology company in Japan, to broaden product and service offerings.
