West Virginia Gov. Signs Bill to Curb "Doctor Shopping"

West Virginia Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin yesterday signed into law a bill aiming to curb prescription drug abuse in the state, according to a WTAP report. Under the new legislation, patients will be entered into a database within 24 hours of dropping off an opioid prescription.

The law is intended to prevent "doctor shopping," where addicts go to several pharmacies to refill the same prescription.

"I think this gives us the first step in being able to start taking our communities back and you know using prescription drugs the way they were intended to be used, and not to go to pill mills or doctor shopping to get these drugs illegally," said Gov. Tomblin.
