Study: Yoga Improves Back Function in Women With Back Pain

A new study found yoga improves back function more than usual care, but did not provide any extra pain relief, according to findings published in the Annals of Internal Medicine.

More than 300 women suffering from back pain were split into two groups and offered usual care or a 12-class, gradually progressing yoga program. Women in the yoga group reported better back function scores at three, six and 12 months than the usual care group. Pain and general health scores were similar for both groups.
