Study: Yoga, Stretching Ease Chronic Back Pain

A new study found patients taking weekly yoga and stretching classes reported a greater improvement in pain after three months than patients who were given a book with advice on preventing and managing pain, said a Reuters report.

Researchers surveyed more than 200 adults on their pain prior to taking yoga classes, stretching classes or receiving the book. After taking classes for 12 weeks, the survey was taken again. For those in the yoga class, 60 percent reported improvement compared to 46 percent for the stretching class and 16 percent for those given the book.
