Study: NSAID Painkillers Raise Risk of Miscarriage

Use of non-aspirin nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs for pain heightens the risk of spontaneous abortion in pregnancy, according to a CMAJ report.

Women with confirmed pregnancies normally have a 15 percent risk of miscarriage, but the risk doubled to more than 30 percent among women who took NSAIDs like ibuprofen or naproxen.

However, researchers only reviewed prescribed painkillers and not over-the-counter drugs.
